Pamilya Grill Invasion

Posted on June 12, 2011. Filed under: At Random, I love To Eat |

For so long a time, I have heard a lot about this quaint restaurant called Pamilya Grill.  It built a certain reputation as the “Fake Bob’s” that kept me very eager to visit the place and try their food.  Some would even say that this place will knock the real Bob’s Restaurant down since its prices are very affordable and one just can’t tell the difference on the taste between the two. So on a rainy Saturday, my husband Owen, me and a couple of friends invaded Pamilya Grill.

When we got there, the place was packed and I noticed the smooth flowing traffic of its patrons, tables can’t stay vacant for more than 10 minutes or so. People just seem to come and go. As soon as I got hold of the menu, I was so delighted with the price! Sate Babe for P40, Mongolian Bowl for P65, Fruit Punch for P20! OMG! I’ll be having all of it for P125, amazing right? The Backribs (medium) is at P90. Deep inside I wanted to order ALL! I had to make up my mind on what to order ASAP! A good 10-15 minute wait and the food finally arrived.

The Verdict

  • The sate babe didn’t really hit the spot for me. I understand that it was served in a much smaller portion because it was only for P40 but it’s not the size actually but the flavor of both the pork barbecue and the sate sauce. What makes a good pork barbecue is the chunk of pork fat that should be grilled.  Unfortunately I didn’t really notice its presence on my BBQ. For the sauce, it was not as rich as I have expected, I guess it needed more peanut butter.

  • The backribs was pretty big for P90, good enough for two. I think they added ketchup or tomato sauce on their marinade and sauce which I really didn’t expect. Maybe I am just used to the BBQ/hickory style sauce but overall it was Backribs Manila style for me. (Usually, tagalogs like ketchup on their BBQ).
  • The Mongolian bowl was good for its price. It didn’t have a choice though between regular or hot (spicy). Nevertheless, the hot sauce did the trick.

  • Pamilya Grill’s array of desserts would really give the diner a hard time to ignore. All are priced @ P25. Hubby and me enjoyed the chocolate cake and brazos de Mercedes. Saying goodbye to your P25 won’t be too bad. They also have Ube and Mango cakes on the list. (Honestly, I wanted to order all but there’s just no more room in my already bulging tummy.

  • The servers were fast in serving our orders and they just have this natural gift of hospitality. Bravo to the servers. They do need to improve on their system though. Instead of charging me P780, they only billed me P375! They need to be careful or else they’ll be bankrupt in no time.

In conclusion I have this to say, Pamilya Grill is Pamilya Grill and Bob’s is Bob’s. There is no need for comparison.  I have been a loyal patron of Bob’s and I can very well say that the quality that they have been preserving for the past decades has not diminished much despite the much needed cost-cutting due to the frail economy that Bacolod has.  If I want to eat my all-time favorite sate Babe, then Bob’s is surely the place for me.

Pamilya Grill may have tried to copy Bob’s menu (which is still a rumor until now by the way), but it has its own distinction maybe on its service or the dainty diner with a “homey” atmosphere but definitely not the food.

If you want to eat Sate Babe or Back Ribs at home, you can simply call (034) 433 7184 to order ahead. Pamilya Grill is located along the main highway of Eroreco Subdivision. It is near the turn to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. They are open from 10:00am until 9:00pm.

The price is really rock bottom. I keep coming back for the Mongolian. 🙂 For sate babe, I’d still go to Bob’s though.

The mongolian bowl is worth its price May although of course they only have one flavor though. 😀
